How is Syphilis Spread
Syphilis is spread by contact with a sore (chancre). The sores are found in the genitals, vagina, anus, rectum, lips, and inside the mouth. The bacteria are passed by sexual contact (vaginal, oral, anal). Pregnant women with syphilis can also spread it to their baby.
Syphilis is not spread by sharing toilet seats, doorknobs, swimming pools, hot tubs, bathtubs, shared clothing, or eating utensils
