Solving the Problem
While any solution to the complex problems that underlie youth violence will require action at every level, from government to community organizations to families, there are steps that teens themselves can take to reduce the prospect of school violence. The NAAG survey offered several recommendations: [26]
· Take responsibility for your own behavior
· Respect others
· Break the cycle of bullying and belittling
· Seek to influence your peers and younger children against violence
· Volunteer to serve in peer mediation, mentoring and in-school civil rights programs
· Break the code of silence that irrationally discourages reporting incidence of overt or potential violence to school authorities
