In many cases, gonorrhea does not show any signs or symptoms. So, a person might be infected with the disease and even spread it to others without knowing. A person might not show any signs for several months. If symptoms appear, they usually occur within two to 10 days of getting the disease.

Signs of Gonorrhea in Men

Symptoms of gonorrhea among men might include:

  • Pain or burning sensation during urination
  • Creamy or green (similar to pus) discharge from penis
  • Pain in testicles

Signs of Gonorrhea in Women


Symptoms of gonorrhea among women might include:

  • Pain or burning sensation during urination
  • Creamy or green (similar to pus) discharge from vagina
  • Bleeding or spotting between periods
  • Excess bleeding during menstruation
  • Pain and bleeding during sex
  • Pain in lower abdomen

Signs of Gonorrhea of the Rectum

Symptoms of gonorrhea in the rectum might include:

  • Itching
  • Creamy or green (similar to pus) discharge
  • Bleeding from rectum
  • Pain in rectal area
  • Constipation (cannot go to the bathroom to evacuate the bowels)
